Part One
Song Sung Blue

Blue watched her Alpha as he talked to her. She knew that he wasn’t the same as she and her sisters. He smelled more like – like food! But he had been her Alpha since she was small and he’d fed her with his own hands, bits of raw meat at first, then mice and small rodents. By the time she graduated to larger game, she hadn’t needed feeding but he was still her Alpha.

“Look here, girl, look at me,” Owen said.

She obeyed, understanding the intent of the words if not the actual words. To her left. Charlie was fidgeting. She snapped at him and he jerked back from her but he also stopped wiggling and paid attention. Echo has his eyes on her.

Owen, as she heard other pale creatures call him, clicked at her. It soothed her that he was pleased. They would hunt and eat soon.
