MISSION OF DESTINY

Han Solo knew smuggling. He might not be the best smuggler in the galaxy but it was his business. He knew these two were dangerous, more dangerous than any cargo he’d carried so far.

They looked like two country bumpkins, but the older one was canny and more than a little secretive. The boy was still wet behind the ears.

They offered way too much money for the job. He’d have done it for half that amount and he was sure the old man knew it.

Were they crazy? Of course they were. Still…

“Meet me in Docking Bay 94...”

It sat in a museum, behind a climate controlled glass. It was dirty and ragged. After all, it had floated in space for at least a century before it had been found by Zack Allen, IV, a private security expert who was traveling to meet a client near Epsilon III, where the old Babylon 5 station had once been.

He’d showed it to his wife.

“Can it be the one?”

“It has to be. As far as I know, there was only one spaced.”

The bear with JS on it sold for a billion credits and Zack never worked again.

A DAMN GOOD HUNTER

Dean had taken to talking to Bobby when no one was around. He didn’t know if their old friend and mentor could hear him or not. It didn’t matter. Just talking to Bobby made him feel better.

Listening to Dean made Bobby anxious. That boy was ten different kinds of trouble and that was on a good day! How could one boy be so damned reckless? Didn’t he ever think of his own safety?

Bobby smiled at his companion. “He’s like you, John. A damn good hunter and a careless idjit.”

John Winchester laughed out loud. “That’s my boy, Bobby.”

“I still think this ship is a hunk of junk,” Leia told Han.

“Even after all the rescues?” Han looked offended.

She shook her head. “Because of the rescues! I never know if we’re going to make it or not.”

“That’s part of the fun.”

She just sighed and looked out the viewport.

“Rather have Lando rescue you?”

“No! He’d come in this ship, too. He’d steal it back from you.”

“So you like me then?” He grinned that lopsided, irresistible grin.

She leaned into his arms. “Of course I do, you silly man.”

“I knew you’d see reason eventually.”

NEW HOME, OLD MEMORIES

Sam walked from one end of the house to the other, looking in this cupboard and that, checking the pantry and looking out the front window. Though he’d been here countless times, this was the first time he’d been here since it belonged to him. He and Rosie would move here soon, as soon as they got everything packed.

First, he had to store the last of Frodo and Bilbo’s things.

He picked the book and read. Tomorrow would be a better day to pack up anyway, he thought as he got lost in his own memories of the past.

Steve and Bucky were watching the Dodgerss play baseball on TV.

“Remind me when they moved to California?”

“1957.”

“God, we’re old. Do the others seem like kids to you?”

“Yeah. With those damn phones and tablets. We were lucky to get to use a phone on the corner.”

Bucky laughed and punched Steve on the shoulder. “We sure are fun, aren’t we? My granny was livelier than we are.”

“Your granny was livelier than we were then, too, Buck!”

“Wanna order some pizza and watch a movie after the game?”

“Iron Man?”

Bucky laughed and nodded. “I’m not surprised!”
