ALL A DREAM

The bike was old, his bike. But there wasn’t any rust and the seat was still supple and soft as if new. He looked around and noticed other things. The buildings were newer than he remembered them being. There was grass growing in the field beside the building, not the garbage and weeds he’d seen there yesterday.

Then he saw the boy. He recognized the hair, the jeans…

What the hell?

Then the woman came outside. “Dean, don’t go too far. Your dad will be home soon.”

He awoke, felt hot tears on his cheek. He missed their mother still…

THE RAIN STILL FELL

The rain fell.

And fell.

He thought it was fit that the earth should cry as much as he had. His heart was as gray and cold as the sky. He held the umbrella in his hand, though the rain fell so hard that it did little to keep him dry.

“We should go now…”

“You’ll catch pneumonia…”

“You need to rest…”

He walked away, not saying a word. He’d always gone his own way, done his own thing. He wasn’t about to stop now. He owed Bones that much. Hell, he owed him everything.

And the rain still fell.

Summary: Sam is scared, very, very scared.

Ancient Evil

He’d heard Gandalf mention them, but he’d thought they were simply a tale told to scare the little ones at night. Living in the Shire as he did, Sam had not seen a lot of things other than his fellow hobbits. He’d said when they started out he wanted to see oliphants and he still wanted to, but this thing, this werewolf – he wished he could unsee it.

It stood on two legs like a man or a hobbit but that was where the similarities ended. It was covered in fur and he could smell its stench from where he hid behind some bushes. It turned and sniffed the air, its long teeth showing even in the dim light. Sam was shivering so hard that he knew the awful thing could hear him!

It turned its head to the sky and howled, a long haunting sound that reminded Sam of all the evil he’d ever heard of. Sam opened his mouth to scream and –

He woke up! It was only a dream. Thank goodness!

Then he heard it. That horrible howl. Gandalf told the truth. There were werewolves out there. He clutched his sword close and waited until daylight came.

Type: 100 word Drabble
Note: LOM Horrifying October: Depths of Moria
Summary: Moria is quiet but not deserted.

THE RESTLESS DEAD

Moria was quiet. The Orcs had gone after Sauron was defeated. The dwarves had given up on restoring Moria to its former glory. The elves were almost gone from Middle Earth entirely. The mines were in ruins, as were the halls and rooms in the upper parts.

Moria was not uninhabited though. If living beings had been there, they might have seen them, the spirits of the dead.

There was no peace. There was no ending. They were trapped there for as long as Middle Earth existed. They roamed Moria’s interior endlessly, silently, seeking…

Seeking a rest that never came.
